I hate it when politicians rationalize not supporting same sex marriage by falling back on “Well, the Family Code doesn’t allow it.”

We know it’s a barrier. And so we need legitimate political support to change the system to respect LGBT rights. The code isn’t the Constitution!

If the law does not allow it, then change it. It is the job of a legislator, after all: to create new or to amend existing laws to fill the needs of the present.
