@jikomayo@mastodon.world it was borrowed from Spanish “chofer” [1] that was in turn borrowed the French word [2].

We know it's a barrier. And so we need legitimate political support to change the system to respect LGBT rights. The code isn't the Constitution!
If the law does not allow it, then change it. It is the job of a legislator, after all: to create new or to amend existing laws to fill the needs of the present.
